Connecting to the puzzle…

One connected set of islands

This bridges puzzle is also called Hashiwokakero. The number on an island tells you how many bridges must touch it. Two islands can connect only along a shared row or column, with no island between them.

Build and revise a connection

Select an island, then its visible neighbour. Select the same pair again to change the number of bridges or remove them. Up to two bridges can join a pair. A bridge cannot cross another bridge or pass through an island.

The totals are only part of the goal

A Hashi puzzle is finished when every number is met and all islands belong to one network. Separate closed groups do not solve it, even when their individual numbers look right. Check whether a new connection would cut off the remaining islands.

Use space as a clue

Hashi puzzles reward checking the available directions from each island. An island with few possible neighbours may need a particular connection. The outline around a completed island helps you track which totals are already met.
