What is a tangram puzzle?

A Tangram puzzle uses two large triangles, one medium triangle, two small triangles, a square and a parallelogram. Every piece belongs in the final outline. The pieces keep their relative sizes when you turn or move them. What are Tangram puzzles built from? The same seven tangram shapes form many different outlines.

How to play tangram

Drag a piece from the tray, or select it and tap its position. Tap the selected piece again to turn it by forty-five degrees. Hold the parallelogram to reflect it. On a keyboard, arrows move the selected piece, R turns it, F reflects it, Enter places it and Delete returns it.

Work from the outline inward

Look for corners and long straight edges before filling the smaller gaps. A piece must stay inside the target and must not overlap another piece. Nearby corners snap together to help you place them. If a move does not fit, the accepted board stays in place.

Choose a silhouette

The pattern library contains a starter house and sixteen original silhouettes. You can reveal a completed assembly or open that exact pattern to build it yourself. A different valid assembly is accepted when it covers the same outline with all seven pieces.
