Spatial puzzles

Try a turn or a reflection, then choose a puzzle that uses that operation. Fit a silhouette in Tangram, pack objects in Organizing or place grid shapes in Block puzzle.

Try one operation

Turn it. Flip it. Does it fit?

Match the wooden parallelogram to the pale outline. Rotating keeps its handedness; reflecting changes it.

Tangram

Cover the silhouette with seven wooden pieces, turning and reflecting them as needed.

Spatial reasoning puzzles: orientation comes first

Turning changes where an edge points. Reflecting reverses a shape’s handedness. Compare both operations in the example above. The piece keeps its size; changing its scale would answer a different problem.

From one spatial reasoning puzzle to a full board

Choose Tangram for seven pieces inside an outline. Choose Organizing to turn objects and fit them in a box, while keeping their visible restrictions. Choose Block puzzle to place a supplied shape and complete rows or columns. Its pieces keep their supplied orientation.

Look at the empty space

A corner, a narrow gap or a long edge can tell you which piece to try next. On a grid, count the cells an object occupies. In Tangram, compare the outline with the piece’s edges instead of guessing from its colour.

Geometry and planning

Spatial games here use two-dimensional shapes. They do not include hidden-object pictures, three-dimensional construction or assessment scores. For a worked example about preserving a later move, open Strategy. These spatial reasoning games are practice puzzles, not cognitive tests.
